Putting Tip
Putting drill
Here's a great game to play while working on your putting. This game will focus your mind on getting the ball in the hole as well as achieving the proper feel for distance.
Choose a fifty foot putt somewhere on the practice green. Use golf tees to mark the position of each station, place a golf tee every five feet starting from the cup and extend them out until you've reached your fifty foot putting station.
Using five putts at each station go through each of the ten stations beginning at the five foot station and try to meet my tour professional minimum quota for each station:
1. 5 foot station- 3 one putts, 2 two putts
2. 10 foot station- 3 one putts, 2 two putts
3. 15 foot station- 2 one putts, 3 two putts
4. 20 foot station- 2 one putts, 3 two putts
5. 25 foot station- 2 one putts, 3 two putts
6. 30 foot station- 1 one putt, 4 two putts
7. 35 foot station- 1 one putt, 4 two putts
8. 40 foot station- 1 one putt, 4 two putts
9. 45 foot station- 5 two putts
10. 50 foot station- 5 two putts
Give yourself 10 points for successfully meeting the minimum requirement at each station. Deduct 5 points for not meeting a minimum requirement. There are no bonus points for going over a minimum at each of the first eight stations. If you hole 4 of 5 putts and two putt the 5th ball at station 9 or 10 give yourself 20 points.
Grade Scale:
65 or less = need extreme improvement (As a tour pro you won't keep your card for long)
70-75= average ( you putt as well as tour pro with a name you've never heard before)
80-90= above average ( you're able to make a living putting this well, but only if you also hit a lot of greens in regulation)
95-100+=excellent (you're ready to win a major if your ball striking is equally as good)
Caution: This game is extremely addictive and can cause a person to lose all sense of time and awareness of other commitments. Therefore not recommended before a tee time.
