PGA Pro   Practice Tip

More distance

If your looking for more distance on your drives then here are four tips involving both equipment and swing techniques that may help you get that extra yardage.

1. Work on increasing your swing speed and timing by practice swinging back and forth trying to create as much clubhead speed in the hitting zone as you possibly can. Try to create a loud "swoosh" sound in and past the impact area. The louder the swoosh, the faster you are swinging and thus your greatest potential for longer shots. Maintain balance throughout swing which will ensure consistent and solid contact each time.

2. Work on your swing shape. A drawing (right to left) ball flight gives the greatest distance and should be your goal off the tee. You must attack ball with a slightly inside swing path. Also use a strong grip (two or three knuckles showing on your left hand and right hand palm paralell to left palm) also hold club mostly in the fingers to help wrists hinge in backswing and rehinge in thruswing for greater clubhead speed.

3. Purchase a 45 or 46 inch long ,lightweight titanium driver with a graphite shaft in the correct loft and shaft flex for you. Get custom fit or demo lots of different drivers to find the right match for you.

4. Use a distance golf ball such as Pinnacle, Top Flight XL 2000, or even the Lady Precept.
