Playing Tip
Avoid No Man's Land
Many players instinctively pull out their three wood for the second shot on par 5's even if they know they can't reach the green. This often puts them either in trouble or in what I call "No Man's Land".
No man's land is that distance where you have to play a less than full shot to the green with a club that may not give you the proper trajectory or right amount of spin to best let you get at the flagstick. It is much easier to manage your play at say the 100 yard marker where you know you can hit a full club to the flagstick.
This same strategy can be applied to short par 4 holes and even when you're punching out of trouble down the fairway.
While practicing on the range stress the 100 yard shot and make it part of your warmup before each round hitting 10 or 15 from 100 yards.
Using this tip should help make your scores drop and ease a lot of the mental
stress, guesswork, and difficulty associated with No Man's Land.
