Do Over

A fun and totally unique format that my friends and I developed years ago in Florida while playing at Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club is "Do Over" Golf. This isn't golf where you get a mulligan when you hit a bad shot but instead exactly the opposite. Your opponents can make you "do over" your great shots whenever they think they can alter the outcome of a hole or match by making you replay your great shot with a slightly different outcome on your part: they hope!

To play "do over" golf, predetermine before the match how many 'do overs' each side is entitled. We used six per two man team and played a match play nassau format. Each player had to do over three shots in an 18 hole round and they couldn't be used on any plays made with a putter.

I'll never forget the time they made me replay my 220 yard second shot over the pond to the par 5 16th at Bay Hill. My 1st play was 45 feet away from the hole on the green, then my first do over replay was 30 feet, and then another do over went to 20 feet away from the hole. Clearly, a rare instance where the 'do over' format failed to work its intended purpose but made for a good laugh up all the way up the fairway.
