The right golf ball
Playing the right golf ball will enhance your performance and overall enjoyment for the game. How many times have you heard that every ball is the same or that with your game it doesn't matter what ball you use? Well it can and does make a big difference.
To achieve maximum golf ball performance you need the right interplay of initial velocity, angle of flight, and spin rate. Just as the clubs you play will have an effect on these variables i.e. driver loft and shaft flex so too will the type of ball.
The main concern in choosing a ball is finding the right ball compression. When a ball is compressed fully it flattens and deforms and then returns back into itself. Using a ball that's too hard the golfer doesn't deform the ball enough and energy transfer is little and using a ball that is too soft the golfer is putting more energy into the ball than is being returned back out. With both the maximum transfer of energy and performance in distance and trajectory is lost. If you find the right compression for your game some of the other factors such as spin rate and trajectory will take care of themselves if you use a good brand of golf ball.
I recommend using the Titleist or Precept line of golf balls as they are, I feel, the true leaders in the industry. These two companies do a lot of research and testing to maximize the spin rates and lift characteristics using different dimple depths and patterns as well as core and cover materials for balls of different compressions. They both have an extensive line of balls from which to choose.
You'll get maximum distance and control using the right ball for your game which will translate into lower scores.
