Equipment Tip
3 iron or 5 wood
If your best shots with a 3 iron are only 180 yards or less and your 4 iron shots are barely 170 yards then you may want to consider replacing those long irons with some much easier to hit wood clubs. The high numbered woods and utility woods (5-7) can hit roughly the same yardage as 3 and 4 irons but with a higher ball flight which will have more control as they land the ball more softly on the green. Also these woods are much easier to play from the taller grass we tend to experience when not in the fairway. The wide sole on these clubs can spread out the long grass instead of catching on the leading edge as with the iron clubs.
Once you experience the fun and ease in playing with these clubs you may want to experiment even further by trying a 9, 11, or even a 13 wood in your bag.
Don’t be afraid to try these clubs out of a fairway bunker either because they work great.
